We, as a country, seem to be blissfully unaware of the current problems with the overwhelming response to the Administration’s invitations to the world for migration to the US. As we know, Americans are, or all have, been descended from immigrants from all over. We have encouraged immigration. But the policies of the past have been based on our capacity to handle immigrants humanely and with dignity. We have invited them to help them AND us. Lately, though, many folks running the country have apparently had a change of philosophy. One look at the conditions the immigrant mom’s, dad’s, and their kids eventually find themselves in are appalling. We cannot handle as many as want to come, as many as have given up everything to come. Who are WE REALLY HELPING??
You might remember the old fable of the Goose Who Laid the Golden Eggs. An elderly farmer and his wife would occasionally collect them and buy needed items for the farm. One day, some educated folks from the city came by and discovered this. They offered the old couple a fortune for their farm and the Golden Egg laying Goose. The couple sold the farm and moved away. The new owners, being wise in ways of high finance and the world, decided to cut the Goose open and collect all the eggs at once. The consequences became obvious, the hoped-for fortune disappeared. All for the lack of foresight from “smart” people.
Letting everyone into the US before we can handle them is like the new owners of the farm wanting all the eggs ASAP. The circumstances the migrants are hoping for will be suddenly gone and the opportunity will have been destroyed.
This is not a hard thing to comprehend. If so, why are so many missing these obvious consequences? What could be their motives? The migrants with real dreams and aspirations, especially for their kids, are being led into dismal circumstances, all for the sake of WHO?
