I’m a geologist, 40 years, and have always viewed the climate change activists with hilarity. In our profession, we have seen all sorts of climate changes in the rock record, certainly over the last 500 million years. When Gore and his buddies started this hoax we just smiled and laughed behind our hands. We had no idea that the real agenda was control of energy use in this country, and in the world. As time has gone on and the climate hucksters have failed to produce any meaningful data indicating a crisis, it has become very apparent that their agenda is anything but getting a handle on climate change. When you compare the number of molecules in the atmosphere to the number of molecules of CO2, and then to the infinitely small percentage Homo sapiens contributes to that you get an idea of how ludicrous the whole idea is.
Of course, those whose eyes are on increasing their power and influence will do anything to keep the reality from coming out. Yes, temperature is going up, but it’s been going up since the end of the Little Ice Age in the mid 1800s. This last age started in the 1300s. Many of the plagues and diseases in Europe, between those times, were caused by poor crops, colder weather, etc., etc. Any decent graph of temperature over recent millennia will show that what is going on is as common as can be, cyclic. The sun is the engine. That is the reason Mars’ temperature is increasing, like Earth’s.
Additionally, increases in CO2 through the geologic record have always led to increased vegetation, increased oxygen and increased life on earth (not something Bill Gates, etal, are welcoming).
What is troubling are the extraordinary efforts being made to introduce reflective particles into our atmosphere seem to be effective. Already we are seeing detrimental effects on our crops. And as an aside, I live in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, a hundred miles from the light pollution of the Front Range cities. I have always been interested in astronomy, and what used to be black skies at night are no longer. They are now very, very similar to what I used to only experience in cities.
Also concerning is an effect Mr. Gates may appreciate. The geologic record shows that “ice ages” occur over a relatively short time frame. Possibly in a number of decades, not millenia.
I also have been a member of CU Boulder’s Geology Graduate Department’s Graduate student board. This is pertinent as we always took new grad students for a quick geology overview of the Front Range when they arrived in September. During this time we would also go up to the High Altitude Research Center on the slopes of Arapahoe Peak. For decades experiments by organizations around the world have been running up above Timberline, recording many aspects of the environment, including temperature of the air, contents of the air, and temperatures of the surface.
The professor in charge of this was very remiss, never mentioning to the students that CO2 is a poor greenhouse gas compared to water vapor. Leaving that pertinent fact out allows the the false correlation between CO2 increases and temperature increases. He should have known better. One thing he also conveniently would leave out was that the temperature of the ground had not changed in all the decades recordings had been made. However, this is just the way WOKE science is done these days. Happily more scientists are willing to risk their tenure or grant money this past year and are talking about the flimsy grounds upon which the climate hoax is being built. One always must remember to follow the money when trying to decide who’s telling the truth. Grants are not made to those scientists who disagree with the politicalization of climate. CU is no exception. By the way, the University of Colorado at Boulder, as a research center, is cited in literature more than any other research grouping in the world. Of course that means they have far more to lose if they go against the scientists who are perpetuating the politicalization of climate change. Sad but true.
