Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold promised February 4 to prosecute federal agents. “ICE is terrorizing our country,” she posted to LinkedIn. “As Attorney General, I will prosecute any ICE or federal agent that breaks the law.”
Griswold is Secretary of State. She is running for Attorney General.
Her LinkedIn profile identifies her as “Colorado Secretary of State.” Recent posts include December statements on DOJ voter data requests—Secretary of State authority over election records. February posts tout Attorney General campaign fundraising—”raised double what her nearest competitors have.”
Secretary of State oversees elections and business filings. Attorney General leads the state Department of Law and prosecutes cases. The offices share no authority.
Griswold leads the Democratic primary with 42 percent support in July 2025 polling. Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty, former House Speaker Crisanta Duran, attorney David Seligman, and former federal prosecutor Hetal Doshi trail her. Connor Pennington is the only Republican filed.
She announced her AG candidacy April 2025. Colorado term limits prevent a third Secretary of State term. The June 30 primary occurs while she holds office. The November general election occurs while she holds office. If she wins, her final day as Secretary of State would be January 12, 2027.
The June primary will decide whether Colorado Democrats choose a district attorney, a former House Speaker, two attorneys—or the candidate whose current job puts her name on official state communications until January 2027.
