The JBS Greeley meatpacking strike entered its third week Friday with no negotiations scheduled. Griswold settled a federal roll-maintenance lawsuit in 2023. The gap remains.
A Denver District Court judge rewrote the bible and ruled the Colorado Democratic Party chair had authority to move the CD4 assembly date, despite a statute assigning that duty to the district chair. Senior U.S. District Judge John Kane upheld Colorado’s voter-approved campaign contribution caps, rejecting a challenge from the Institute for Free Speech. Four candidates cleared petition requirements for the June 30 primary, including Sen. John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet. Disabled Colorado Springs firefighter Jake Savala announced his candidacy for City Council District 2.
Nebraska’s wildfires were supposed to be over. The Morrill Fire — 642,000 acres, the largest in state history — reached full containment last week. Then, overnight Wednesday, two new fires ignited in Grant County. Colorado’s snowpack is at its worst level in the 41-year history of USDA’s monitoring program. The Southern Rockies sit at 38% of average. Snowpack appears to have peaked around March 9 — roughly a month ahead of schedule, and the earliest peak on record. Colorado State Assistant Climatologist Peter Goble put it plainly: “You not only have less water, but you have to stretch it out longer.”
Support Independent Local Journalism — High Country Advocate was created as a real alternative to regional media that too often silences dissenting voices while taking sides in the political struggle. Producing in-depth, unflinching reporting like this series and others is expensive: servers, editing, research time, and legal review all add up quickly. If these articles have informed you or given you new perspective, please consider supporting HCA with a paid subscription — every subscriber helps keep this reporting strong and independent.
