Buena Vista is updating its Transportation Master Plan for the first time in 22 years, and the Town is asking residents, businesses, and visitors to identify problem intersections, unsafe crossings, and connectivity gaps before engineers begin drafting recommendations.
The Town hired KLJ Engineering to lead the update, which will evaluate roadway conditions, bicycle infrastructure, pedestrian access, and accessibility needs. The existing plan, adopted in 2004, no longer reflects how people move through town. Two decades of growth, increased tourism, and seasonal recreational traffic have outpaced what the old document anticipated. The updated plan will incorporate Complete Streets principles, which require transportation infrastructure to serve drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and mobility device users.
Community members can drop location-specific comments on an interactive map or complete a two-question survey at my-bv.com/transportation-master-plan-2026. The Town will also host a public open house on July 9 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the BV Community Center, 715 East Main Street. That event will run jointly with public engagement for the final draft of the Parks, Recreation, Trails & Open Space Master Plan.
