Editor:
I was present for the Civics Bee presented by the Chaffee County League of Women’s Voters, henceforth, “The League” which was held on 26 April 2026. I was present at the event.
The league opened the proceedings without the Pledge of Allegiance. While mortified, I remained silent. I have never been to one of these in the four years they have been running. My “Internal Patriot” alarm went off when they skipped The Pledge at a Civics Bee.
I was told that the national organization sets the standards after asking “No Pledge of Allegiance??” This is a huge civics problem. To educate the youth about civics without saying the Pledge of Allegiance is just flat wrong.
This needs to be changed, as what is going on is “civics, light” at best, “socialism” at worst. Stop with the nonsense.
