An Open Letter to the GOP Candidates for Governor
Colorado is a super majority. There is no effective State GOP organization. It is a wreck. The Republicans need to regain the complete government, but the current trajectory guarantees failure.
There are 22+ Republicans running for governor of Colorado. Out of these 22+ people, there are only about 4 that would be decent as a governor. Meanwhile, there are 65 open house seats and 18 open senate seats. There is the governor, lt governor, AG, SOS, and Sec Treasurer open seats. Only 68 Republicans have filed for office. At the federal level, there are 3 or 4 House seats with no candidates.
Even if we get the best candidate for governor to win, on the first day of office, the person can be impeached and removed from office. If not, then every veto will be overridden.
The caucus is in March. Then the primary in June and the General in November.
My proposal is for the candidates for governor to meet and decide who will be the candidate for governor. The meeting would be facilitated by an odd number of facilitators.
Each candidate would be asked to bring a list of qualifications that they feel a governor of Colorado should have. This would be a biased list. They would also be asked to bring a list on why they have these qualifications. This list would have to be verified. The candidates should be able to defend their own qualifications. If they are unable to defend them during a closed meeting with fellow Republicans, how would they be able to defend themselves in a campaign against the Democrats?
The governor qualification list would be consolidated and uploaded into several of the popular AIs. Then the person qualification list of each candidate would be fed into the AI. It would be scored based on the governor qualification list. The top four would be listed as the best candidates. Then, the candidates could be chosen from the other candidates. The second place could be asked to run for Lt Gov since it is currently open.
Now, the candidates could address the unfilled seats. The remaining candidates would be asked to consider the open seats if they are eligible. They could also run for the other seats that are up for election even if there are existing candidates declared. Due to this, the other candidates who have already declared would be invited to attend this meeting. They would also be allowed to vote. Several current members of the state legislature which is term limited and part time may want one of the paid positions.
The purpose is that by the end of the meeting, Colorado has all seats filled with the best candidates. These people could be considered the defacto leaders of the State Republicans. They would be expected to pool campaign resources where possible. With the state of the State GOP, very limited finances would be expected from the party. This should not be a problem. For the Democratic campaign for AG, the four candidates have raised over $2 million dollars between them without the help of the state party, since the party is supposed to be neutral. Griswold alone has raised well over a million dollars herself. Republicans can do the same by working together.
If the candidates are not happy with the outcome, they can still run in the caucus or be petitioned in.
