“Your letters forum seems like a great place to make Salida and
Chaffee County aware of the scholarships that VFW (Veterans of Foreign
Wars) offers! The amounts vary from basic scholarships to the National
Winner receiving a $35,000 Prize. You provide a great way to get this
benefit out to kids and parents in the Salida and surrounding area.
What a community service!
Each year the brochures and/or the website give a topic to write an
essay and video for teen scholars. Quoting the brochure, “The Voice
of Democracy is open to students in grades 9-12 by the Oct. 31
deadline, who are enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high
school or home study program in the United States, …” Seems like a
wonderful benefit to all senior high students in our Salida Community
and beyond.
Editor, parents, and students please accept this challenge and
opportunity. Information is available 2 ways. Go to vfw.org, click
community, click community again, scroll to youth and education, click
that and “youth scholarships” will appear on the left for you to click
again and get into the scholarship details. There you will find
narratives and PDF’s for information and entry forms.
